Walking Down Main Street, U.S.A. - Disney Photo Album

Here is Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A., on July 12, 1955, just a few days prior to the opening of the park. It’s not often you get to see regular automobiles parked on the street. Photograph taken by Howard D. Kelly.

NOTE - From time to time I will share photos that are related to Disney in some way, such as theme parks, people, etc.

Walking Down Main Street, U.S.A - Disney Photo Album

Sometimes while looking around Facebook or other social media sites I come across some great photos of Disneyland past. Yesterday I came across these photos posted on the Lost Angeles Facebook group by Laurie Hasencamp (from her original post she is the one with red hair) and I am sharing them here with her permission.

The Hub in 1963, long before “The Partners Statue.”

Skull Rock and Pirate Ship Restaurant. Removed during the 1983 Fantasyland remodel. Dumbo the Flying Elephant occupies this area now.

The entrance to Tomorrowland with the House of the Future (through those trees) and the Matterhorn in the background.

Frontierland near the Western Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland attraction. The approximate location of the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad today.

Thank you to Laurie again for letting me share these great photos from Disneyland in 1963.

NOTE - From time to time I will share photos that are related to Disney in some way, such as theme parks, people, etc.

Walt "Quote" Wednesday

Welcome to Walt "Quote" Wednesday on the Walking Down Main Street, U.S.A. blog. Each Wednesday, I’ll share a random quote from Walt Disney from various sources such as books, websites, etc. Great care will be taken to ensure the sources are reliable and the quote is accurate and real.

"The motion picture still has great things ahead. Equipped with its big screens, its color and sound fidelities, and all its perfected devices for illusionment, nothing is beyond its range and powers. Itself  a marvel of science, it can and will serve with equal facility the space enthusiast looking beyond the sun, and the homebody content with the warm familiar earth and all its bounties when he goes with his family seeking entertainment and inspiration."

Jason's Disney Movie Review: 'Muppet Treasure Island' (1996)

The next movie in my quest to watch and review all the movies and films made by Disney is the 1996 feature film 'MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND
.' Not sure how long this will take or if I will be able to complete it but I am going to have some fun trying and hopefully watch some some great movies! All the movies and films will be chosen at random and right now come from the Walt Disney Pictures library which will include Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar movies as well as the True-Life Adventure movies. It will not include at this time movies and films from Touchstone Pictures or Hollywood Pictures or from any of the studios that were acquired by The Walt Disney Company such as Marvel Studios, LucasFilms and 20th Century Studios to name a few. Those may come later. My goal is to post at last one review a week and possibly more in some weeks. For each movie I review I will include some basic information such as release dates, synopsis, cast and crew as well as my thoughts and a rating or score that can be used to put together my all-time favorite Disney movie list.

"I actually started to plan the picture about 1935. And I fooled around with it, trying to get a hold of a story and things, for a couple of years, and finally it began to jell, then I went to work on it and I finished in the fall of 1937. I didn't know what I had or what would happen or anything. We had the family fortune, we had everything wrapped up in Snow White. In fact the bankers, I think, were losing more sleep than I was. And fortunately, though, when we put it in and premiered it and everything else, why everything was fine and the bankers were happy."

From an interview of Walt Disney by Fletcher Markle of the Canadian Broadcasting Company on September 25, 1963.

Disney100 “Tradition” Special Look

Disney posted this on YouTube and I thought it was great!
