Today in Disney History: Michael Eisner Born in New York

Michael Eisner was born on this day in 1942, in Mount Kisco, New York. On September 22, 1984, he was named CEO of Walt Disney Productions and held the position until September 30, 2005. During his 21 year tenure he oversaw the revitalization of the company's poorly performing animation department with super successful films such as "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin" and "The Lion King." The company also acquired the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), much of ESPN and The Muppets franchise as well as extending the company's theme parks across the United States and the globe, with Disney-MGM Studios, Euro Disney (now Disneyland Paris), Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's California Adventure Park, Tokyo DisneySea, Walt Disney Studios Park and Hong Kong Disneyland.
